THE CALENDAR ATELIER

Follow the month.
Find the day.

A year has two stories. Explore how Chinese lunar months fit inside the Gregorian calendar, then place three date markers.

Supported workshop years: 1900–2100. A lunar month has 29 or 30 days. A leap month repeats a month number; it is a separate month, not an extra day. Dates use this engine's Chinese calendar convention.

Start with the New Year marker: regular lunar month 1, day 1.

What does the leap month change?

Months follow the lunar cycle, while the year also stays aligned with the seasons. Some years insert a leap month. The repeated month has its own first day and length; regular month 6 and leap month 6 are different destinations.

Each medallion shows the real month length and its Gregorian starting date. Select adjacent years to see the same lunar date move on the Gregorian calendar. This is a calendar-learning tool; it does not specify statutory days off or fortune-telling predictions.
